Richard Madeley has made his thoughts known on media personalities who think they are better than others because of their jobs.

The presenter, who is best known for fronting This Morning for 13 years with wife Judy Finnigan, and has worked on Good Morning Britain since 2017, has slammed TV hosts who get big heads.

Speaking about his frustrations over people he’s encountered over the years, the 67-year-old said fame had left some believing they were more important than other people.

‘There are a lot of people in television on screen who it goes to their heads,’ he said.

‘We all know them. And you can see that they think because they have access to people’s living rooms through the TV, it makes them somehow better.

‘And I just think that actually makes them look ridiculous,’ he added, explaining how he first noticed how self-important some hosts were when starting as a reporter at Border Television in 1978.

‘Quite quickly I formed a contempt for people on television who think that it makes them in any way, shape or form, special,’ he told Kaye Adams on her How To Be 60 podcast.

‘Because it doesn’t. Just because you can read the autocue or learn a short piece to camera out in the field.

‘Why would you think that would make you any better than anyone else?’

In the interview, Richard also spoke about instances of run-ins with viewers, explaining how he ‘only had to puff or sneeze to get extraordinary abuse on social media’.

Detailing one encounter, he explained how he was once confronted by a disgruntled person whilst on holiday in Cornwall.

‘He came right into my space, finger jabbing at my chest and he said, “I just want you to know that everything you’ve ever done, everything you’ve ever said or will say, I loathe and f***ing despise, you c***”,’ he said.

However, Richard didn’t take it to heart and said he just ‘burst out laughing’.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am
on ITV1.
